7. Holiday use it or lose it!

The Organisation of Working Time Act 1997 sets out the rules regarding holidays. The statutory leave year is April to March, however, many organisations have a January to December rule for administration purposes. The Organisation of Working Time Act notes that employees have up to 6 months in the following year to take their annual leave were it has been prohibitive for them to take it in that current year. In the first instance it is vital for health and wellbeing that employees are encouraged to take their annual leave in the current year, however, if that hasn't been possible for operational reasons, then agreement must be made with the employee to carry it over for use within the first 6 months of the next...
