1. Maternity Leave
All female employees, regardless of how long they have been employed or the hours they work, are entitled to 42 weeks maternity leave. This is made up of Ordinary Maternity Leave (OML) and Additional Maternity Leave (AML).Ordinary Maternity Leave is a period of 26 weeks and is normally with pay from the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection. Additional Maternity Leave is a further 16 weeks, is unpaid, and starts immediately after Ordinary Maternity Leave. During the period of both Ordinary and Additional Maternity Leave an employee will continue to receive their normal terms and conditions of employment and any contractual benefits they would normally receive if they were at work, e.g. holiday entitlement, redundancy rights etc, except for remuneration.
