7. Parents Leave
Parents Leave allows an employee to take paid time off work to spend with their child. Both mothers and fathers can take Parents Leave within the first 2 years of the child life or the placement of the child. From 1 July 2022, Parents Leave increases from 5 weeks per child to 7 weeks per child and can be taken consecutively or individual weeks.
Parents Benefit is payable for the duration of parents leave if the employee is eligible to receive it. An employee must apply directly to the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection for Parents Benefit, at least 6 weeks prior to commencing parents leave.
