6. Interview Preparation
Overall Objectives
The overall objective of an interview (and the whole recruitment process) is to find out as much as possible about the applicant, so you can determine their suitability (or otherwise) for the job and to be able to objectively and fairly distinguish one applicant from another. The applicant should therefore do most of the talking, prompted by your questions.
Try to use open questions using ‘why', ‘how' or ‘explain' to start a question. This encourages the applicant to speak further rather than answer simply ‘yes' or ‘no'.
